The Only White Car To Win Pebble Beach Best Of Show: 1933 Delage D8S De Villars Roadster
MONTEREY, Calif. — A week of automobile heaven wrapped up after crowning the shocking (deserving) Best Of Show blue ribbon to a WHITE 1933 Delage D8S De Villars Roadster.
The Delage beat out more than 200 other spectacular classic cars, finally putting to rest the notion that a white car could not win at Pebble Beach.
“A white car has never won at Pebble Beach,” said the vehicle’s owner, Jim Patterson, of Louisville, Ky. The man of the hour, Mr. Patterson, purchased the Delage in 2007, at another Pebble Beach auction, for $3.74 million and then had it restored to its award winning condition.
$3.74 million is huge money for a car, but to put it into Monterey, California perspective: this year a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT long-wheelbase California Spider Competizione sold for $7.26 million.
